November - Men's Health Awareness Month

We’re proud to be affiliated with employers who are already leading the way. In conjunction with global experts, Jacobs has developed the One Million Lives free mental health check-in tool. This has given men across all their sites easy access to information about early indicators of mental health concerns and equips them with the skills to be able to talk openly.

Sage employee John Barrington, meanwhile, has shared his mental health journey, including the support he received from the company when he decided to seek professional help. And at DWP, mental health first aiders, such as Richard Chilcott, are on hand to help colleagues who are struggling with mental health issues, or simply need to pause and talk in a non-judgmental space.

To further our commitment to ensuring all workplaces are proactive when it comes to men’s mental health, VERCIDA is delighted to host a webinar with TransPennine Express (TPE). The focus for this important event is Encouraging Open Conversations: Breaking the Taboo of Men’s Health.

During the webinar, the speakers will address the stigma attached to men’s mental health and – crucially – how to challenge this with courage in a supportive, safe environment. TPE’s representatives, Deborah Easby, Occupational Health & Wellbeing Manager, and Ian Watson, Driver Manager and Mental Health Ambassador, will talk about the practical steps that are being taken in the workplace to drive real change and support employees.

TPE has partnered with Andy's Man Club to promote men's mental health. Through initiatives, such as a train wrap and a video, TPE aims to create safe spaces for men to discuss their mental health. The partnership emphasises the importance of talking and seeks to save lives by encouraging open conversations about men's mental health challenges.

Deborah and Ian’s experiences from the coalface of occupational health and wellbeing will give webinar attendees unique and valuable perspectives that they can share with their own organisations.

The webinar will be held on Wednesday 20 November at 10:30am.

World Mental Health Day: A Conversation with John Barrington, EVP Global Performance Marketing

John Barrington had a pretty bad day right before one of his visits to Atlanta. When he arrived at the airport, he decided to search for a psychologist online, eventually agreeing to meet one. For someone who describes himself as upbeat and generally happy, the decision to seek professional help was a moment of reflection. For John, what began as a simple search for clarity turned into a much more profound journey of self-discovery.

Finding the right balance with mental health support at DWP
Richard Chilcott is able to support his clients and colleagues as a youth employment coach and mental health first-aider for the DWP. I work in the Young Adults Employment hub in Southampton. As a youth employment coach, I typically work with people aged between 18 and 24, including people who are living with mental health struggles – and those who are just trying to figure out what they want to do and where they want to go. I’m in a privileged position where I can help people.
