Celebrating Women Month 2021

March Month Focus

A month to raise awareness on the impact women have made in history and to highlight the needs and challenges many women face worldwide.

In many parts of the world, women are still highly discriminated against, and may even have less access to education and economic opportunities. That’s why throughout the month, we all share and support women’s rights to give light to these issues.

Women’s Month commemorates the history of women’s impact in the world and to raise awareness of issues women are facing worldwide, International Women's Day was established to commemorate the movement for women's rights.

Inspirational Women - Oprah Winfrey

Simply through being compassionate, caring and charitable, Oprah Winfrey has made an astronomically successful career for herself. She shot to fame as an interviewer when her ability to emotionally connect with her guests struck a chord with the American public, and since then has gone from strength to strength. In 2003 she became the first African-American woman to be classed as a billionaire, yet in true Oprah style shares her wealth with those who need it most, having personally donated over $300 million to charitable causes. Oprah's wealth and fame is certainly no accident, as she believes that luck is simply "preparation meeting opportunity".

Women and work

When women work for an inclusive employer where their career is supported, life can be very different. Yet time and time again, women often find themselves working for an employer that doesn't support or value their contributions. Toxic work cultures, poor promotional opportunities, lack of flexibility, limited benefits, and pay inequity are some of the reasons women tend to look for a better employer. Plus, a visible lack of women at upper levels can provide a pretty good clue that a company is struggling to attract strong talent.

Thankfully there are many progressive employers with inclusive work cultures, impressive employee benefits, outstanding development opportunities, good flexible working practices, and rewarding career opportunities and we are proud to have them on the VERCIDA platform.

Choosing the right employer

When women enjoy their work, it is often because they feel valued and supported. Additionally, the work is rewarding and meaningful, the environment is dynamic and inclusive, and the pay and benefits are highly competitive. When women are supported to achieve success, and their values are aligned with their employer's - it is more likely their careers will thrive.

Choosing the right employer can significantly help a woman's career and improve her overall wellbeing. Being able to get a true sense about an employer before applying for their jobs is key. So to highlight how women are supported within an organisation is essential for everyone. Highlighting key initiatives and inclusive features like a champions network, flexible working, gender pay equality, wellbeing and corporate social responsibilities are just a few things an employer can make more visible.
