May - Mental Health Awareness Month May
At CBRE UK, we recognise the pivotal role that organisations play in fostering employee wellbeing, alongside their DEI goals. In recent years, there has been a notable shift in corporate attitudes towards mental health, with an increasing number of companies acknowledging its significance and implementing strategies to support their employees. Here at CBRE, we understand that a healthy workforce is not only more productive and engaged, but also essential for attracting and retaining top talent in the competitive real estate industry.
Our vision for Wellbeing complements our DEI strategy by “Creating an open, safe and inclusive culture that delivers excellence through wellness. Focusing on the things that truly matter to people, removing judgement and putting health and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do, for our people and for our clients.” To deliver on this vision, we have three Wellbeing pillars, Mind, Body & Life, that form the foundation of our employee wellness offering, including support, events and activations throughout the year.
One of the cornerstones of our mental health initiatives is our employee assistance programme (EAP), which provides confidential counselling and support services to employees facing personal or professional challenges. In addition to this, we have 132 mental health first aiders across the UK who have been trained by MHFA England and are available to provide support, signposting and reassurance to anyone who may be going through a challenging time.
An important factor in our approach to mental wellbeing is the recognition that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of position or seniority within the organisation. As such, we have partnered with the likes of Movember and The Listening Place, to host panel events with our senior leaders and colleagues to discuss their own personal experiences of mental health and the impact of suicide. This has been instrumental to building awareness of mental health conditions, fostering a culture of openness, and breaking down the stigma around these topics.
To further enhance our pledge to creating a workplace where every individual feels valued and supported, our head office Henrietta Place, is the second largest building in the UK to achieve Platinum standard WELL Certification by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). It was completely redesigned and upgraded internally with the core focus being to create an inspiring and energising workplace which promotes wellbeing, sustainability and productivity.
We are proud to sponsor Mental Health Awareness Month on VERCIDA as we reaffirm our commitment to building a workplace where everyone can thrive, regardless of their mental health challenges.
