March - Women's History Month
Right now, there’s a gap in female talent in business leadership. Women are underrepresented in senior roles in just about every industry, particularly in the energy sector and we want to change that. We have created a variety of initiatives to support and empower women, recognising that a diverse workforce isn't just good for business; it's vital for innovation and success.
Within SSE, the commitment to gender equality isn't confined to policies on paper. We are committed to creating a workplace where women flourish. Through fair pay practices, flexible first working principles and opportunities for advancement, we hope to close the gender gap for good.
We know that brilliant leadership requires diverse perspectives, experiences and skills which is why we want to break the glass ceiling and tear down the barriers that may prevent women from reaching their full potential.
SSE’s "Women in Power" initiative aims to encourage and empower females to apply for leadership roles within the organisation. We’re looking for people who will lead the teams, departments and businesses working towards our Net Zero goals. Our collaboration with VERCIDA underscores our proactive approach to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and demonstrates SSE’s commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where employees are valued for their unique backgrounds and perspectives.
STEM RETURNERS SCHEME AT SSE
Amanda Harvey took a career break after the birth of her second child and is now employed as a Commercial Analyst, with SSEN Transmission. She said:
“The STEM Returners journey I have been on has been amazing, I honestly couldn’t have asked for a more fulfilling return to work. The process was exactly what I was looking for as a vessel for getting back into my career, but I didn’t think anything like this existed. I would absolutely recommend the programme to anyone looking to find their way back into industry after a career break. SSE as a company has been brilliant and it feels good to work in an organisation that aligns with my core beliefs.”
